Start rooting some plants in water now so you’ll have
young, small plants to overwinter on your windowsill.
Cut a few inches from the tips of plants such as coleus,
shown,
impatiens, rosemary, sweet potato vine, or
zonal geranium. Remove all but a few of the leaves
at the tip and place the cuttings in a vase of plain water
in bright, indirect light. Change the water every few
days. After roots form, pot the cuttings in soil and grow
indoors until it’s time to plant them outside in your
garden again next spring.
